These Dogs Are Dreaming, Now Watch What They Do In Their Sleep!

I’ve watched mine and I often wondered what’s going on in his head? Is he dreaming and if so, about what? What is it that makes his little legs twitch like that? Sometimes, he’ll even let out little whimpers. So, like any crazy doggie mom, I’ve asked my vet about it. Especially when he does something in his sleep that I’m just unsure about, I’ll just give them a call. In most instances, I’m reassured that it’s most likely a dream that he’s having.

According to Pet Place, dogs are just like humans, in that they have two main types of sleep- REM (rapid eye movement) sleep and SWS or slow wave sleep. The cycle of sleep begins in slow wave sleep and then over time it transitions into REM sleep.

While in the REM stage of sleep the brain waves are rapid and irregular, like those of the awake stage.

At this stage their mental activity is exactly like that of humans and it’s heightened. As a result of this heightened brain activity, they might have movement in their legs, or they may whine or breathe very quickly.
