Koko The Gorilla Plays Guitar With Red Hot Chili Peppers Bass Player Flea

The Red Hot Chili Peppers visited Koko the Gorilla at the Gorilla Foundation in Woodside, CA. The video was posted on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ YouTube page on August 19, 2016, and has been viewed by hundreds of thousands of fans.

Forty-five-year-old Koko seems curious and genuinely thrilled as she strums the guitar while Flea chills in the background.

It turns out that guitar is one of Koko’s many talents. As a baby, she was introduced to the English language, and by 1 year old, she began to learn sign language.

Koko’s caregiver, Francine “Penny” Patterson, reports that Koko knows 1,000 signs from a modified version of sign language, dubbed “Gorilla Sign Language” or GSL. Koko was originally loaned to Patterson for a study, but wound up staying with the researcher supported by the Gorilla Foundation.

She also made the news recently when she adopted kittens.

Flea is an avid animal rights activist. After his latest encounter with Koko, he shared images with his fans along with a call to them to support the Gorilla Foundation.
