Taylor Thyfault was only 21 years old when he was killed in the line of duty in May 2015. He was in the last stages of training with the Colorado State Patrol, and was already an Army veteran by the time he was struck and killed by a suspect involved in a high-speed chase. His mother, Carole Adler, has been grieving the loss of her son since. And from time to time, as any parent would, she gets lonely and sad, and can’t resist the urge to text her deceased son, knowing very well that she won’t receive an answer. This was something the mother and son did often, and she says that she was the last person to have done so before he died. One day, when she couldn’t resist one of these urges, she messaged him that she loved and missed him. And just when she thought that the message wouldn’t reach anyone, she was wrong.
