Among the modern high rises of Hong Kong, the cramped and dirty Kowloon Walled City was once the densest place in the world, ever. Over 33,000 people called the nebulous collection of structures home before it was demolished in 1994. The city served as a haven for squatters and organized crime over its history of spotty government control.
