She Tightly Rolls Some Newspaper. When Camera Zooms Out?? Magic!
In Fuji city Shizuoka, there is a paper strip manufacturing plant that has a whole new life to it. The plant that was once operated by Chie Hitotsuyama’s Family is now an art studio.
The shades and color of the news print add dimension and depth and the glossy eyes give an expression that brings the sculptures to life.
“And eventually, a shape or a form of an object appears. Newspapers come out every day and at the same time, are thrown out every day.
“This cycle repeats rebirth and death whilst carrying our memories. This, I felt, is so similar to humans who also repeat their own histories and experience the cycles of life and death.
“My animal sculptures, made from an accumulation of newspapers, might perhaps be portraying ourselves and our lives, on many levels,” Chie Hitotsuyama said.
If you have enjoyed the art that Chie has created using discarded newspaper, take a minute to share her work with your friends and family using the social media buttons below. You never know who will be inspired to turn trash into treasure.
