One-Eyed Dog And Injured Cat Fall In Love In Their Foster Home
Lai Lai, an old boxer, has a bad eye and didn’t really like cats. But what self-respecting dog likes cats anyway? But then, Lai Lai went to live in Austin, Texas at the home of Kickie D’Alfonso, as a foster.
Meanwhile, in July, Squirtle, the cat, had been seriously injured and was being cared for at a busy shelter in Texas.
Squirtle had no skin around his tail, and he had open wounds all over.
His chances of survival at a shelter were slim, so D’Alfonso was asked if she could take him in. She said yes.
One month later, D’Alfonso said ‘yes’ when she was asked to take in Lai Lai.
This was the third time Lai Lai had been picked up as a stray.
One of Lai Lai’s eyes was enlarged, painful, and had to be removed.
Lai Lai was also covered in bumps and ticks.
The bumps, as it turned out, were from a bacterial infection.
Lai Lai also had several masses that needed to be removed – and she was heartworm positive.
The shelter had tried to contact Lai Lai’s owners, but they never responded.
D’Alfonso is a specialist when it comes to caring for the tough cases.
She moved to Austin after Hurricane Katrina and said that fostering is a way to give back to the community that gave her a new life.
D’Alfonso, a vet tech, takes in the animals with extraordinary needs and gives them a chance – she has a full house!
The latest editions are Squirtle and Lai Lai – who are best friends!
