National Anthem Begins Playing At Olympics — But Keep Your Eyes On THIS Pole Vaulter. WOW…

The timing couldn’t have been better for an American Olympian to show what real patriotism looks like during the final days of the Rio games. In the wake of the embarrassing Ryan Lochte antics that hang over America like a gloomy sky, we desperately needed this display of the true Olympic spirit.

American pole vaulter and Army reservist Sam Kendricks, was in the middle of his qualifying round of competition in Rio when he literally came to a complete halt after hearing the first few notes of the Star-Spangled Banner. He dropped his pole and stood at attention for the duration of the anthem.

Kendricks went on to win the bronze medal with a vault of 19 feet, 2 1/4 inches. He is one of 18 American athletes in Rio who also serve in the military.

Kendricks’ patriotism has been well-received, with many viewers thanking him for the simple yet powerful statement. “Most patriotic thing I have seen at the Olympics this year,” wrote one viewer on Twitter.

Sportsgrid referred to Kendricks as the “Anti-Lochte,” writing, “If Ryan Lochte and his swim pals tarnished the reputation of U.S. athletes with their gas station bathroom antics last week, then 2nd Lieutenant (Army Reserve) Sam Kendricks polished it up quite a bit on Sunday night.”

Kendricks thanked the host country for hosting an incredible Olympic games. “Thank you so much, Brazil! I must leave tomorrow but I am happy to leave with the love and support from you who call this home. Keep your nation’s pride Strong and have faith in your athletes! A good games it has been!”
