Mom Suspected Of UNTHINKABLE, Seconds After Cam Catches Her, DR Is Fighting For Baby’s Life

There are countless women in the world whose greatest desire is to become a mother but for whatever reason aren’t able to conceive. Many more have had to mourn the untimely loss of a child due to illness or other tragic circumstances.

Just as there are a myriad of women out there who desperately crave a child of their own, there are plenty others who can’t wait to get rid of them. That’s why it’s absolutely heartbreaking to hear what this teenage mother did to her baby.

Teen mom, Shantaniqua Nykole Scott, 17, of Waco, Texas, brought her son, 4-month-old Rhaidyn, into Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth because he had stopped breathing. Suspecting it was a case of reflux — when stomach acid backs up into the esophagus — doctors performed surgery on the infant.

But after Rhaidyn stopped breathing again a day later, hospital staff became concerned that he was being abused. They placed the baby in a video-monitored room; what they found was unsettling.

At first, Scott appeared to be checking on her son: until she placed a blanket over his face for at least 20 seconds. When a nurse walked in to check on the baby, she stepped away and pretended to be on her cell phone.

As soon as the nurse left, Scott walked back over to Rhaidyn and placed her bare hand over his nose and mouth. This went on for 1 minute, 14 seconds.

“It kind of takes your breath away when you see it,” said Assistant District Attorney Eric Nickols, who prosecuted the case against the teen mom. “You see him fighting and kicking with every amount of strength that a 4-month-old has, until he just gives up.”

Scott later told police in a recorded confession that was later used in court, that this wasn’t the first time she’d tried to smother her baby. She explained that being a teenage mother was hard, and that the boy’s father didn’t help.

If it weren’t for hospital staff who immediately rushed in to save him, Rhaidyn wouldn’t be here today. “If I could get him to die, I could get him out of my life,” Scott told police. It didn’t take long for the jury to convict Scott of the horrific crime.

Initially facing life in prison, she received 25 years, she’ll be required to serve at least half. “I think she deserved every second of the time she got,” said Nickols. We pray that the time she spends behind bars will give her a complete rehabilitation.

As for baby Rhaidyn, he was released a short time later from the hospital and was placed in foster care, with an unknown diagnosis of any brain damage from the lack of oxygen.
