Mom Devastated When Entire Family Insults Special Needs Son. Then The Waiter Overhears…

It’s 2016, and I still find myself in shock at the way people treat one another. Specifically, how they treat people who are different from themselves.

Kim Castillo is a mother of two beautiful sons. One of her sons, Milo, happens to have special needs.

They live in Houston, Texas where a particular restaurant has become one of Milo’s favorites. At Laurenzo’s Prime Rib restaurant, the mom and son have become quite the regulars.

They love the comfortable environment and friendly employees. After their first bad visit to the restaurant, one amazing worker may have just made up for what happened.

While Kim and Milo were enjoying their food, the family next to them moved tables. Kim was confused and wondered if it was something they had done.

Michael Garcia was the waiter that evening and overheard the reason why. It turns out the family moved tables because of Milo.

The family said that “special needs children need to be special somewhere else.” This remark was disturbing to him, so he quickly escorted the family out of the restaurant.

Garcia said to the man, “I’m sorry sir but I can’t serve you.”

A lot of people would have been disturbed by what they heard. Not many people would have taken action because of it.

Castillo was so thankful that someone would stand up for her and her son. She hopes that others can learn from this unfortunate experience and instead of standing by, take action, be a good person, and stand up for someone who could use the help.

Kim went on to say:

“I was impressed that somebody would step out of their own comfort level and put their job on the line as well as to stand up for somebody else. I know Michael did it from his heart, and from reacting to the situation. I don’t think he stopped and thought about what he was doing.”

For all the bad people we have out there, at least we still have those people like Michael, the ones who do the right thing and treat people the way they deserve to be treated.

It doesn’t seem like that’s a lot to ask. But to Kim and Milo, what Michael did meant the world to them. Fortunately we have waiters like Michael, and like the waiter who found the unthinkable after his customers left the table.
