They Lived In House For 76 YEARS. Now, It’s Finally For Sale — No One Can BELIEVE What’s Inside!!

Some noteworthy events occurred in and around Sydney, Australia back in 1938. The Country celebrated its 150th anniversary, Sydney hosted what were then called The Empire Games, nineteen people died when a Sydney ferry capsized, dockworkers refused to load scrap iron headed toward Japan, suspecting it would be utilized for ammunition … and this tidbit: Tom and Jean Cheetham were married at Sacred Heart Church and bought a house in Cremorne (now Mosman).

The Cheetem’s lived the Australian dream and worked hard to pay off their humble abode in about 20 years. Tom worked for the GPO, and back in the War days he translated Morse code into telegrams.

The couple had two children, a boy and a girl. The home was the centerpiece for four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

The loving couple spent 76 years in the house until it was sold a few years back, with a selling price of $1,600,000 AUD. Three generations of loving family witnessed the sale, and neighbors, auctioneers and curious citizens had to see the place for themselves.

Besides the sheer longevity the couple had in their home, it was another element that made this case really special. They took wonderful care of the place.

The couple left the interior and exterior in pristine condition, just as it was when they bought it. Their son, Kevin, said, “They put a garage in under the front of the home and they filled in a little veranda out back. Then they built a work shed for my Father and that’s about it.”

The couple did the majority of the work themselves. Tom would step up the pace in regards to the housework, gardening and washing when Jean wasn’t feeling well.

When the couple moved into a nursing home, Tom was a respectable 103 Jean,100. Unfortunately, Jean passed away in July of 2016. Her obituary read, “Very muched loved wife of Tom for seventy eight years. She was a Loving Mother and Mother-in-Law as well as a devoted Nanny to her Grandchildren”.

Many wonderful comments filled Facebook regarding the couple, their home and the way they lived their lives. “It brought tears to my eyes–they still loved each other,” someone gushed. In regards to the house, “It came back in style–I wouldn’t change a thing–it was very well kept,” another reader shared.

Tom and Jean Cheetham certainly did it the right way. Tom was quoted as saying, “We weren’t a throw away society back then. We took pride in what we had and took care of it.”

As for relationship advice, he acknowledged, “they (couples) just don’t stick it out anymore.” The Cheetham’s certainly did stick it out and they took care of what they had.
