The dad walks in holding his son with tears in his eyes. The mom’s horror when she sees them is indescribable.

It was just like any other morning, when Brittany Lynn Garrett woke up and got herself ready to seize the day.

But when she saw her husband, Christopher, standing in the doorway, holding their young son with tears in his eyes, she immediately assumed the worst. “I thought someone we love took a trip to Heaven….,” she said.

But it was quite the opposite… in fact, something quite remarkable had happened. Christopher is a combat-disabled Iraq veteran. After suffering a shattered pelvis and undergoing rehabilitation, Christopher can walk again, but with a limp. Some physical activities and tasks are quite a challenge for him. One such thing is mowing the lawn. Christopher had been using a standard mower to cut his grass. But because it was something he did once a week, it became quite an arduous chore for him, particularly given his injury. It was also something that took much longer than it should.

But that morning, life got a little easier for the Garretts. They received a completely unexpected, selfless and anonymous gift from someone who cared. When Christopher found this note, together with the gift, he was speechless. Both he and Brittany were overcome with gratitude and joy. The note was completely anonymous, but thanked Christopher for his military service. It also said that they hoped Christopher could use his gift to spend more time with his family.

So what was the surprise? A riding mower! This amazingly generous gift has made the job of mowing the lawn much easier and faster, leaving Christopher more time to spend with his wife and son. Without knowing who gave them the mower, Brittany and Christopher were thrilled, and very touched that someone would go to such lengths for them.

“Thank you whoever you are!” Brittany wrote on Facebook. “You don’t know how much pain this is going to save him from!” Christopher also responded: “The war that I have seen has hardened my perception of society, but after today, I truly understand that everyone has their place to be a hero.” Let’s hope Christopher will have more free time to spend with Brittany and their son!
