Dad Tried To Kill His Child Because He Thought He Wasn’t ‘Man Enough’ To Raise Him

Nathan Weitzel, 29, is under arrest after telling police that he tried to kill his 2-year-old son Isaiah because he thought he wasn’t “man enough” to raise a child. Court records obtained by KUSA state that Weitzel took his son to the park on August, 21. While he was watching Isaiah play, he plotted ways to kill him.

Weitzel then put his son inside his car and purposefully made sure he wasn’t restrained. He proceeded to drive into several cars at speeds in excess of 75 miles per hour in the hopes that it would kill Isaiah. This is what was left of the car…

When police arrived Weitzel told them he was trying to kill his son. Responding officers wrote in the report:

“The reason he wanted to kill Isaiah was because being a father was a big responsibility and he did not think he was man enough to raise a child.”

Weitzel also admitted to police that he’d used cocaine earlier that day. A woman who called 911 to report the incident said that she also saw Weitzel “hitting the child… it looked like an elbow. It was horrifying.”

Thankfully Isaiah somehow survived the murder attempt, but returned to his mom with half his body in a cast.

Weitzel was arrested and has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, child abuse, assault, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance and vehicular assault.

“He’s in the place that he should be. He needs to be in jail for a long time,” said Isaiah’s mom, Nancy Lopez. Lopez takes care of Isaiah full time, but Weitzel used to spend weekends with him. Lopez claims that Weitzel told her he didn’t want to be a father on multiple occasions.

A GoFundMe campaign to pay for Isaiah’s medical bills has raised around half of the $20,000 needed.
