Foxie herself was born into a lonely existence in August of 1976. She was subjected to laboratory research for hepatitis vaccines, and she was forced to produce more chimpanzees for research. But, she was never allowed to raise them herself. When Foxie retired in 2008 and was sent to Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, the person who took care of her warned them that Foxie couldn’t be trusted and would be very rough if people ventured too close.
