Science and modern medicine has made much progress but certain cases are so strange that they baffle even the experts. This story of Virsaviya ‘Bathsheba’ Borun-Goncharova, a six-year-old Russian girl who was born with her heart and chest outside her body, has stumped even the greatest medical experts of present times. The condition she suffers from is called Penology of Cantrell, which is a rare congenital disorder. The victims usually show symptoms of several anomalies at birth and they may vary in each individual. The probability of one being afflicted from the disease is 0.0001 percent. It was highly unfortunate that Virsaviya had to bear the brunt of this rare condition.

Gloria Marie Steinem the iconic American feminist said “Childbirth is more admirable than conquest, more amazing than self-defense, and as courageous as either one.” Dari Virsaviya’s mother cannot agree more with her. When she was pregnant with Virsaviya, doctors told her the chances of the child surviving were next to impossible. But the tiny warrior has battled all odds and is unfazed by the difficulties. A bundle of positivity, she explains “I know why I have a heart outside, because Jesus wants to show that he can make special things like me.” As the doctors in the country are not armed with expertise to treat patients suffering from such critical condition, the family sought treatment in other possible locations.

It was however not easy to find a doctor who would agree to take her on as a patient. After several futile efforts, a children’s hospital in Boston finally agreed to admit her. Though it is a glimmer of hope for Virsaviya and her family, the path ahead is not going to be easy. The doctors insist that they wait for at least two years, before operating on her, for the blood pressure to lower.

The life-saving surgery is going to cost a fortune and Virsaviya’s parents have started a crowd funding page to arrange for the requisite amount. The NBC Miami reported that the couple has been able to raise about $30,000 till date. The tiny angel has lots of dreams she wants to fulfill – “I don’t go to the school and I don’t go to the ballet but I want to do it at home.” We wish her all the best and hope she makes a full recovery.

Do share the word and create awareness among friends and family. Our prayers would mean a lot to the warrior Virsaviya.
