State Takes 14-Yr-Old’s Baby, Says She’s Too Young To Be Mom. 82 Yrs Later, She Finally Meets Her

The bond between a mother and child is unique in its ability to remain strong despite difficult circumstances such as distance and time spent away from one another. Plenty of mothers have experienced seasons of separation from their children for one reason or another, but one mother’s extraordinary story of reunion with her daughter reminds us all that even 82 years apart does not mean such a special bond will disappear.

Lena Pierce, currently 96 years old, gave birth to her daughter, Eva May, at a hospital when she was 14 years old. Despite her age, she took on the responsibility of motherhood and lovingly cared for her daughter for six months.

When Eva May was six months old, the state took her away from Pierce due to her young age. They told Piece that she was unfit for motherhood at 14 years old.

Of course, Pierce never stopped thinking about her daughter who she carried for nine months, birthed, and cared for during Eva May’s first six months. Pierce went on to mother seven more children, but always thought back to the year 1933 when her first child was taken away from her.

Where was her daughter now? What was she like? How was she doing? Those were all questions that Pierce never had answered.

When Eva May was adopted, her name was changed to Betty Morrell, but little did she know that her birth mother was always dreaming about her as “Eva May.” Morrell was 21 years old when her adoptive parents passed away, which triggered her desire to find her birth mother.

Morrell searched for 50 years before she found her half-sister on Ancestry.com, which eventually led her to her final goal of finding her birth mother. Pierce and Morrell reunited at the Greater Binghamton Airport after 82 years of separation.

Most people never experience such an emotional reunion, especially not after such a long separation! Morrell explained, “I’m not alone anymore. I have my mother, and I have sisters and brothers. It’s surreal, but so wonderful to be together again after all this time.”

Both women have expressed that this heartwarming reunion has made them feel complete after longing for over eight decades to reconnect. They frequently talk over the phone with each other and would like to plan another reunion.
