Puppy with leg deformity still loves life

There’s nothing more heartwarming than a puppy ambling your way for some playful interaction, and perhaps nothing more heartbreaking than an animal which is suffering from a birth defect that makes even the simplest tasks difficult.

That’s why a story like that of little Duke is so easily able to pluck our heartstrings. Duke was the puppy of a 5-year-old named Ella, a rescue dog in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who was saved by a generous GoFundMe account and the people at Broward County Animal Care and Adoption, according to a recent Vimeo video.

The GoFundMe account raised $1,500 for Ella to have surgery to save her from her injuries and resulted in Duke’s birth, according to the Vimeo report.  Duke was born with a congenital defect that made him struggle badly to walk, his legs extremely deformed.

But that’s when another crusader stepped in — Kristin Light Arias of Little Paws of Love, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to help abused and abandoned animals to get the care they need and the homes they desire. The staff of Little Paws used donated funds and lots of volunteer hours to help Duke learn how to walk, resulting in that first precious amble down the hallway looking for trouble.
