Mom Visits Premature Baby In NICU. But Then She Looks Down At Baby’s Tiny Face & Sees It
There are lots of important milestones in a babys life. First words, first steps, first birthday the list goes on and on.
With the advancement of technology today there are so many ways to capture and share these firsts, and moms everywhere are able to share these amazing moments with distant family and friends. Photos and videos cut down on the miles dramatically and bring family closer.
This was the case for Lauren Vinje, who was trying to get a picture of her daughter, Freya, for her husband. Freya was born premature, weighing in at 3 lbs 14 ounces. Her mom didnt even get to hold her for the first five hours of her life because she was so fragile and the doctors wanted to ensure that her lungs were working normally.
There were numerous struggles along the way, as Vinje found out that she had preeclampsia at 28 weeks. your body sees the placenta as a foreign object and its almost like your body becomes allergic to it, explained Vinje. If youre not monitored closely, youll lose the baby.
But little Freya was not lost, and thanks to the care of her parents and attentive hospital staff, she survived and grew stronger. This picture was taken when Freya was only five days old.
I was talking to her and I had said, Should we send a picture to Daddy? and right when I was about to take the picture, she had this huge smile, she told interviewers. Unable to contain the cuteness, she decided to post it, and it quickly went viral.
Vinje wanted other mothers to be encouraged. She knew she had down days when her complications and her babys health made life difficult, but it was these silver linings that kept her strong and hopeful.
Based on the response the photo has received, Vinje got her wish. Mothers from all over have been responding with their own stories and photos, and the community of mothers of premature babies has banded together over these photos and the fight that all their little ones put in.
This photo was taken in 2014, and Freya is now a healthy, happy (almost) 2-year-old. Her mother still loves sharing this photo and her story with others, and hopes to be a source of inspiration for mothers in the future as well.
She was happy to be alive! was part of the caption on the photo when mom posted it online, and its easy to see the life and joy shining through the little ones happy eyes and big smile. She brightened our day and were sure shell brighten yours!
