Thats great and all but its manganese that is of particular interest for those of you who are trying to find some relief from bronchitis. Indeed, if expensive medication isnt doing the trick for you, perhaps bananas are the all-natural solution that you need to get rid of that pesky cough!
You see, manganese is an essential nutrient that helps promote wound healing for your lung tissues. Moreover, an enzyme called manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) is responsible for the principal antioxidant enzyme in mitochondria, which are responsible for respiration and energy production in all of your cells.
A protein called BanLec is also found in the pulp of ripe bananas. A study at the University of Michigan has demonstrated that this protein helps to render viruses harmless. BanLec is attracted to the same sugar molecules that cover viruses, giving it antiviral agent properties.
The remedy below also calls for honey, which has been well known as having healing properties because of its antibacterial activity, and because of its high viscosity that helps it to form a layer of protection. Honey containsvitamins, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc. If you can get your hands on Manuka honey, its even healthier!
*400 mL boiling water
*2 medium ripe bananas
*2 tablespoons of honey (Manuka honey if available)
*Peels the bananas, cute them up and mash them up
*Add mashed bananas to a pot of boiling water and allow to steep for 30 minutes
*Once the mixture has cooled, mix in honey
*Drink the mixture 4 times a day (100mL per serving)
*Make and use this remedy for five days in a row
