Every week it seems as if there is another shooting, a protest which turns violent, or disorder and chaos erupting at a political rally. A constant stream of violence, anger, and division comes from the news wherever we turn.
Its heartbreaking to see so many people hurt or taken from this world at the hands of others. Whether accidental or deliberate, there has to be a point where we put all disagreements and differences aside to come together as human beings, as brothers and sisters, as people.
In the wake of another attack leaving two police officers slain in Urbandale, a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa, one woman is providing an example of how we can overcome the hostility that envelops our society. She has nothing more than a few bottles of water and her prayers, but the simple act of reaching out in peace was enough to leave both her and a police officer in tears.
Earlier in the day, a gunman had ambushed two Urbandale police officers at separate locations. This lead to high tension throughout the entire city while the gunman was on the loose.
Once word spread about the womans act of kindness, others across the city began to come out in support of their law enforcement officers.
The woman approached an officer with a plastic bag and a case of water bottles saying, This is the only way I know how to help; to feed. She began crying as she embraced the officer and said, I want you to go home to your families, because I want my dad to come home to me, and I want my friends to come home to me.
Still embracing one another, the woman confessed, Im sorry, and I am here for you all. I dont know how else to help or what else to do. Through tears the officer responded, Your prayers are all we need.
This touching moment is a perfect illustration of how love, compassion, and kindness can overcome any evil or division in this world. This woman from Iowa only had some water bottles, snacks, and her prayers.
But it was her boldness and courage to reach out amidst the confusion and turmoil that is most impressive and made the difference. If this act of love and friendship inspired you.
