3-Pound Baby With Rare Growth Disorder Looks Like A Newborn, But He’s 7 Months Old

Matthew Riddle III was born weighing only one pound and two ounces. He fit into the palm of his parents’ hands. Matthew has microcephalic osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism type II (MOPDII), it is also known as primordial dwarfism. Before being diagnosed Matthew spent 98 days in NICU – his parents were told that his brain had stopped growing and they didn’t expect him to live much longer.

Matthew’s prognosis was much better when he was three months later. They now expect Matthew to be able to walk, go to school – he will just be much smaller than the other children his age. Matthew looks like a newborn, but he is 7 months old and weighs under 4 pounds.

Because of his size, Matthew wears clothes from Build-A-Bear dolls. It is likely that Matthew will have a long road of medical treatments ahead. His first surgery was this month. We wish him all the best.
